Wren's Room

Wren's room is finally done! For the amount of stuff in it (which isn't a ton), it seemed to take a ridiculous amount of time to finish, but hey, crafts take time. Well okay, the only actual craft was the pom poms on the ceiling, but those alone were not easy. In fact, they were infuriating at first (I'm sure I mentioned before how there was almost a pom pom massacre in our living room after I had continually ripped the first one and was ready to shred the whole thing to pieces).

This ol' chair is from Ikea and we've had it since we first got married. It was from my sister...but originally in the As-Is section. It is white, it is stained, and a bolt or two usually fall from the bottom of it at least every 3 months making it a hazard to sit in. But we keep it for some reason or another. Now it's in Wren's room being covered by a beautiful afghan my mom made for her new room.

The pillowcase is from Etsy. This chair sits by her bed for story time...for me. It's pretty impossible for me to climb around the lovely Safety 1st contraption on the side of her bed and wiggle in next to her to read a story. Actually, it's harder to get out of her bed to be honest. Either way, my spot is the chair for story time.

One of our other "crafts" was to paint her headboard and mirror matching purples. Originally we had bought a purple can of spray paint from Michael's and tried that and failed. The paint basically slipped right off the wood. I'm not going to get into why it didn't work (especially when we sprayed our lamp stands a yellow without any trouble), and tell you that we went and bought a tiny can of paint from Home Depot in Sugar Plum and hand painted the headboard instead.
I brought her pillowcase to the store and matched the paint to one of the shades in her bedspread. It's a very yummy shad of purple for sure.

The lamp is from Ikea, and we sneakily unplug it at night so that she doesn't get click-happy with it.

It's somewhat hard to tell in the photo, but the mirror matches the headboard. It used to be a high- end looking shade of oak, not. We got the mirror for free, and now it looks so good with some colour on it! And who doesn't love a classic name puzzle displayed in their room? I'm shocked we still have all the letters for it.
Kenton had some scrap walnut, so he cut and sanded a piece for a shelf and we spray painted some Ikea shelf brackets yellow.
I was going to get really ambitious and try a fun stencilled pattern on her dresser, but then I realized that wasn't actually being ambitious as much as it would be plain stupid. (1. No time 2. Too much work 3. No time).

I'm still trying to find a third "W" for the wall to make it an odd number up there, but for now this will do. The only other "W" I can find is a metal one from Urban Outfitters or Anthropologie which is a little bit more industrial than I want to go for.
(The Sesame Street bag was from American Apparel, so yeah, overpriced and she cared about it for about a whole 2 seconds).

So there it is, and with the bookshelf in the corner, it's pretty darn cute in there. The yellow makes a nice accent colour with the purple, which worked out well since Ikea didn't have much colour selection for lanterns, and we conveniently had a yellow afghan for her bed. In hindsight, a rich orange would have worked well with these shades or purple too!

My other favourite room accent is the Safety 1st bar on her bed. Ha!

The baby's room is also on it's way to being finished, and I can't wait to share that in the near future as well :)
