Ellie has been napping for 3 hours and counting this early afternoon. This is because she barely slept a wink last night or the night before- and as you can guess, neither did I.
She caught a virus and last night it began to turn into croup as the night wore on. The poor thing couldn't sleep, she would wake with a painful sounding dry cough that was becoming borderline barky.
Nana came over and we took the girls with us to the Stollery Children's Hospital emergency room.
The doctor gave Ellie medicine (of which was a long name I can't remember) and said that should start helping this afternoon. Well, it must be because she is snoozing deeply and even I managed to catch a big long nap.
Did you know that you can take your sick kids to the Stollery emerg? It's not the closest hospital to my house but I would go there again in the future if needed. The waiting room had so many fun things for Wren to stay occupied with as her and Nana waited, and there are paediatricians there to check your child so you can get the best diagnosis and treatment for them. It was clean, relatively quiet in the early morning and you don't have that gross crowded room full of people. The Stollery is an incredibly well done health care facility.
I haven't pulled nearly all-nighters like that since...hmm..travelling through Europe with Chelsie, and those all-nighters were intentional. Oh how different my life has become! I look forward to feeling like a normal human being again in the next few days, right now I feel sooo off but so happy to take it easy at home. It's a terrible feeling when your kid is sick, you just wish you could take it on yourself somehow and spare them all the discomfort and pain of it.
Update: Ellie's fever seems to have broken and although it's going to take a few days to recover, she seems to be doing pretty okay despite being exhausted and napping a ton :)
Oh no :( Get well soon Ellie! Its hard to picture her sick, she is just so so sweet! Their haloween ppictures looked so cute and good idea on the scavenger hunt!
ReplyDeleteSad to hear that Ellie is sick and you guys are all out of sorts as a result...but SO glad to hear that Stollery was top shelf. That hospital will always hold a special place in my heart.
