Thoughts on being a mom of two at 9.5 months..

9.5 months. Well, sheesh. I have noticed I have less time to blog anymore, have you noticed? But the girls are napping so let's do this!

(We built a castle today based on the picture on the box.)

So, some thoughts...

1) Bath time means you as the parent will get drenched. Ellie and Wren can take a bath together if I hold onto Ellie's leg while she's sitting up so she doesn't slip. Last night Ellie splashed so much and so hard that my entire arm was soaked up to the shoulder and my glasses were full of water drops. Wren's face was covered in water and she was trying not to be annoyed at Ellie because it was both cute and irritating to her at the same time. Once in a while you hear an "EL-LIE! UGHHH!"

(Castle is a little rickety. I'm no engineer okay?)

2) Colds. The rule of colds in a family of four is that at least two of you will have it at the same time. Ellie slept through the night but Wren was up coughing for over an hour. Then Wren will sleep through the next night and Ellie will wake up repeatedly with a stuffy nose. I'm not sure what people do with more than two kids because well, you run out of hands if both parents are up at once. Just when everyone is healthy you go, "AH-HAHA!" in a crazy person laugh like you can't believing it's happening, sort of like when you fit into a pair of favourite pants that used to be too small.

3) It looks like someone walked around in my house dumping a bag full of dust bunnies and tiny bits of junk all over my floor- oh wait...it was your toddler. I am also not sure why I have cupboards- my dishes prefer to live on the counter by the sink...dirty. (How does a house not come with a dishwasher or a space to put one, tell me this.)
(Please ignore runny faucets, cuteness still prevails)

4) I'm not actually sure why so many moms cut their hair short to make their beauty routine "easier". That sounds like it would require washing and styling each day and not be easier at all. I prefer to not wash my hair and do a very long pony tail that resembles a dreadlock on a bad day and a rat tail on a good day. Or a headmistress bun on top of my head like in Matilda (I loved that book as a kid). These are easy styles to pull off that take less than 7 minutes to do. Also, in keeping my hair long, it requires so little maintenance like frequent tedious haircuts and colourings. Okay who am I kidding, I'd love to go for a haircut and talk to an adult while they do my hair and be away for me kids for 1 full hour. Sounds heavenly.
(How did she get this tall so fast. How.)

5) I wear glasses for convenience, not style. Recently, a few friends got glasses off of clearlycontacts.ca because you get your first pair free- and they don't even need glasses to see. This boggles my mind. I wear glasses because they do two other very important functions- a.) they cover up the dark circles/bags under your eyes and b.) if you have thick, dark frames like mine, they also cover up your unplucked eyebrows.
(Rarr.)

6) Winter is a test of your sanity and endurance. Someone is always sick in your house (and if no one is, please see point # 2), it takes 2 hours to get your kids fed, diapered, dressed and out the door to go play for a measly 15 minutes until they whine that they're cold and want to go back inside, it is a challenge to do anything that has to take place outside of your home, cabin fever is almost worse than a real fever, and you are pumped for the next date night with your spouse until one child actually does come down with a fever. I see a pattern here.
(Grass hula skirt wears like a hospital gown, flowing freely from behind.)

7) I have become good at making whatever Wren wants out of Mighty Big Blocks. And, when you move toys downstairs, she doesn't notice. At all. She actually plays better without mountains of toys all over the place. I'm okay with this. Very okay.
(Watching the big machines unload.)

8) As Ellie gets bigger, she can interact more with Wren and this is just so cute I could die. I have also discovered how loud Ellie can screech when you don't attend to her when she wants you to. The second child/ youngest child really has to make themselves heard at an alarming volume at times!

Well I have officially run of out time it seems. Until next nap time...

  1. Yeah, I really can't believe how tall Wren has gotten, either! My goodness, time is sure flying. You're doing such a great job of being the very best Mama to Wren & Ellie - they are so lucky to have you!
