My dream bedroom, sort of.
I spotted this Before & After on one of my favourite blogs, Design*Sponge a while back. The moment I saw the photo, I knew what had to happen to our bedroom. Our house is small, and therefore needs good storage and organization built into it. This photo is what someone did to their bedroom, and I think it is so smart- and great looking!
We don't have a dresser or chest of drawers in our bedroom at the moment. We actually don't have a scrap of bedroom furniture...seriously. Our bed and box spring sit on the floor. We have a chair and one table from a set of nesting tables in the living room as our bedside tables. We have a leather chair in one corner and the shelf on the wall. And lots of boxes on the floor around the walls from our bathroom reno which isn't done yet but when it is I will post pictures.
It's not a monetary reason that we don't have any bedroom furniture...it's a We-don't-want-to-buy-Ikea-furniture/Husband-could-make-us-bedroom-furniture/Need-more-hours-in-a-day-for-DIY-projects kind of a reason.
And then I see a cool bed like this...
and I know I'd rather wait to have something that great instead of buy something "meh" in the meantime.
While I'm on the subject, I'll show you the photo that inspired our bathroom. Ours definitely has a, um, feminine touch compared to this one, but we liked the contrast of the white walls and the wood in the mirror and shelves.
We didn't copy the black floor, but found an awesome dark grey concrete tile instead that we were very happy with.
All of these pictures are from Design*Sponge...a site really worth checking out for home ideas!

Something fun to watch..
You know what trend I am really into right now? The trend happening in movies and television at the moment: It's cool to be married and/or have kids. Naturally I would have to agree :)
For example, anyone see Dan in Real Life? Date Night? Steve Carrell seems to think that family and marriage is important (note: not always easy) and a really great thing in life. His latest movie, Crazy, Stupid, Love is also definitely worth seeing!
Andrea, my sister, showed me this amazing preview for a new tv show in the fall called Up All Night. It's starring Maya Rudolf (from Bridesmaids and SNL), Will Arnett (Arrested Development and 30 Rock), and Christina Applegate. I laughed my way through this entire preview! We are really really excited to start watching this one:

I am also excited for the return of 30 Rock, Modern Family and SNL this fall! Any other must-sees out there?
What to do on a nice, hot, summer evening
We had this idea of finding the new Fort Edmonton foot bridge that was recently built. The bridge itself is really cool, and has places you can sit and just hang out.
We brought a small picnic and watched the river.
Trying to keep a toddler from running all around the bridge and not get hit by passing bikes was interesting...actually next to impossible. Wrennie would pretend to want to go stand by the bars and look out at the river, but then make a mad dash.
Once we finally gave up making her stay in one spot (and one tantrum later), we headed back on the path to our car. Wrennie loved picking up every single leaf and stick on the trail, handing them to me, and picking up the next one she saw.
Oh here Dad, I picked up this stick just for you!
Do you like our attempt at taking a picture of just the two of us? Nice.
That is the face of a little stinker!
When we got home, we may have all watched another episode of Wipeout for fun as well :) One of Wren's favourites!

Traipsing around
Here comes the weekend! For once we have almost nothing planned, so some plain ol' hanging out is in order.
Wren demanded to wear this hoodie...even though it's too small. She will not be bound by passing fashion trends and will choose comfort over style! (At least until she turns 13 yrs old.)
Her and Kenton spent Monday together as that is their day now while I go to work and Kenton stays at home. We have confirmed that he is really good at it, and if I could make more money at my job, he would love to stay at home full time. The two of them made granola, cookies, and veggie chilli with corn muffins- all on the same day. Now if I actually left them for an entire work week, I would like to see if he said the same thing!
I like being home, but I definitely enjoy being at work too. Part time was perfect. Full time starting September will be..well it will just be what it is. I am excited for the team of ladies I will be working with. I will just have to encourage Kenton to take pictures on the day I am not home so I can still blog!
Wren talks on the phone. All. Day. Long. This isn't exactly a new thing. The amount just increased. And it is all on her "hand phone". See picture below. It goes something like this:
"Hi, Hi! Aunty? Hi. Yeah? Yeah. Jucka buh ta. Ta. Ha ha! Hi. Nana? Yeah. La ka pop a mum, da, yeah, yeah."
"Hi, Hi! Aunty? Hi. Yeah? Yeah. Jucka buh ta. Ta. Ha ha! Hi. Nana? Yeah. La ka pop a mum, da, yeah, yeah."
She discovered how cool shadows are. She moved her hands around and watched her shadow move too..
Bubbles. Wren eats kitchen sink bubbles. And then has a bubble burp afterwards. Mmm.
Wren's new favourite show (that isn't animated), is Wipeout. She goes "Oh! Boom! Ha ha!!" when the people on the course wipe out and nose dive into the water. She will sit through an entire episode. Ridiculous.
It's going to be a hot weekend although it was feeling like fall (especially in the mornings) this week. I like summer but I love fall. Anyway, have a great weekend!

Weekend!
I am excited for this weekend, it's supposed to be hot and sunny!
Wren is "thinking". She says "hmmm" and puts her finger to her mouth.
Well, there is no time to waste, we must get going today and get to the fun stuff later! Have a good one :)

Up!
Last fall, Wren thought being thrown into the air and caught again by Kenton was super fun. I think if you zoomed in on her little face below, it's sort of a mixture of glee and fear though! This photo was taken in September.
This photo was taken in October. Mostly just glee and fuzzy hair in this shot:
And only pure, giggly joy last weekend! I love her huge toothy smile in every photo, and the last two are my favourite air-borne poses!

Dreamy baby
This morning I caught a cute little sight on the front step..
And then another in the front window this afternoon...
I have been really slow on picture taking and blogging these days. I only have Tuesdays off this month, and am working the rest of the weekdays. We are also in the middle of renovating our bathroom, which is always an adventure...! We aren't going to Folk Fest, but sort of wish we were now! We did just buy tickets to see Feist in November (yay!) and tomorrow we are going to go see Crazy, Stupid, Love. I love almost anything with Steve Carrell in it (except for Dinner for Shmucks) so I think it should be a good one!
p.s. I started reading Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son's First Year by Anne Lamott (I saw it on A Cup of Jo) and have had several laugh out loud moments already.
